MIDI Settin's Menu

Th' MIDI Settings screen be gatherin' everythin' th' OnSong^® app does with MIDI into one place, matey: th' devices it connects t', th' tempo it shares with 'em, th' events it sends while ye play, how it responds t' messages arrivin' from elsewhere, and what it puts on screen so ye can watch any o' it happen. Arrr!

Connections

This area be managin' MIDI system activation and how ye connect MIDI devices t' OnSong through wired and wireless transports, savvy?

• MIDI Enabled toggles whether OnSong transmits or receives MIDI data
• Sources displays active CoreMIDI input devices; tap t' adjust which devices OnSong accepts MIDI from
• Destinations shows enabled output devices; tap t' control which devices receive MIDI from OnSong
• Bluetooth MIDI pairs wireless MIDI devices, which was previously reachable only from an icon in th' Sources and Destinations screens
• Network Session connects t' other machines over Wi-Fi usin' a CoreMIDI network session
• Virtual MIDI permits direct communication between OnSong and other iOS applications via virtual MIDI port

Beat Sync

Synchronization tools be alin' th' tempo and phase between OnSong and other products, and feed everythin' that follows th' beat clock. Ahoy, Ableton Link leads th' section because it be th' alternative t' MIDI clock rather than a different subject.

• Ableton Link joins a Link session with other apps and devices on th' network, with no pairin' and no cables
• MIDI Clock aligns tempo with connected devices usin' 24 clock signals per beat. Its Sync Mode covers both directions — Lead sends a high-accuracy clock at th' viewed song's tempo, Follow adopts an incomin' clock's tempo, and Both does each — which be where th' old Listen ▸ For Tempo settin' now lives. Behavior decides whether th' clock plays continuously or stops without tempo, and Time Adjustment modifies MIDI clock speed
• Tap configures "tap fer tempo" style MIDI event transmission
• Tempo assigns a channel fer control change-based tempo transmission (CC 106/107)
• Time Signature shares th' meter as a standard notation message; Follow adopts a meter sent by another device, Lead sends OnSong's

Playback

Manages how MIDI files be played and when MIDI events be sent, ye scallywag.

• Play MIDI Notes Through designates where MIDI note events route durin' backin' track playback. Multi-Channel Setup, in that screen's toolbar, assigns a destination per channel instead o' one fer everythin'
• Send MIDI Events To designates where control events route. Basic Playback Setup returns it t' th' single-destination arrangement
• Song MIDI Events sends MIDI start, stop, and continue commands t' external devices, so tappin' th' Audio Button in th' Live Bar will not only start a backin' track but start th' connected gear with it
• Chord Note Events plays th' chords in a song through optional sound banks or transmits 'em via MIDI t' connected destinations by selectin' a channel
• Velocity sets chord playback velocity, which defaults t' 64; adjust higher fer louder or lower fer softer playback

Control

Determines how OnSong responds t' incomin' MIDI, includin' th' channel it follows fer chords and how controller values be applied, Arrr!

• Follow Chords analyzes note events t' detect and insert chords in th' Song Editor. When turned on, ye can place yer text cursor in th' Song Editor and play a chord on a keyboard t' write it into th' chart
• Use absolute adjustments interprets raw MIDI values (0-127) directly instead o' relative positionin', and be used when performin' Variable Actions

Broadcast

This be sendin' song information usin' OnSong System Exclusive messages fer tighter integration with apps, matey. Ye can learn more about how t' implement these messages in their own products usin' our Broadcast SysEx API

Display Events

Flashes MIDI events onto th' screen t' make 'em more visible, savvy?

• Chord Events flashes detected chords on screen
• Control Events displays CC activity
• Note Events shows Note On/Off messages
• Program Changes indicates program and bank select changes
• Sequence Events displays start, stop, continue events
• One-Based Index (1-128) shifts display numberin' from 0-127 t' 1-128
• MIDI Note Start selects Middle C reference standard (Yamaha C3 or Roland C4)
