Gettin' Started

In this guide, we be showin' ye th' core features o' OnSong needed t' start usin' OnSong right away, matey. We be referentin' various screens in our in-depth user manual but focusin' on gettin' ye th' know-how t' use OnSong effectively, quickly, savvy?

Requirements

Th' OnSong® App be runnin' on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices runnin' iOS/iPadOS 15 or newer. Ye can also be runnin' th' OnSong® App on Intel and Apple Silicon Mac computers runnin' Big Sur or newer. If ye be usin' an older device that don't be supportin' these operatin' systems, we be recommendin' updatin' yer hardware fer future support from OnSong and Apple. However, if ye had purchased or downloaded OnSong previously, ye can always be downloadin' that last known version fer that operatin' system on that device from th' App Store.

Installin'

Th' OnSong® App be only available fer purchase on th' App Store or Mac App Store. Search fer "OnSong" or follow this direct link. This be a free download and ye can be unlockin' features through an OnSong® subscription. This version be gettin' continued improvements and features as well as services and premium technical support.

If ye had paid fer OnSong from th' App Store as a one-time purchase in th' past, ye can be continuin' t' run OnSong 2020. Since it be no longer available fer sale, ye be havin' t' sign into yer device with th' AppleID used t' purchase th' product and then install or update usin' th' App Store app. This version don't be includin' all th' features or services t' th' current app, but it be updated t' periodically t' make sure it continues t' run on yer device.

If ye have already purchased OnSong ye can be downloadin' and installin' th' app on another device fer free as long as ye be usin' th' same Apple ID with which ye first purchased th' app. If ye subscribe t' OnSong, ye can be signin' into any OnSong® App with yer OnSong® Account and access yer premium features and services.

Launch OnSong

When th' app has finished downloadin' and installin', it be appearin' on yer home screen as an icon. Tap t' open. Once opened, ye be prompted t' sign in.

Sign-In

T' start usin' OnSong, ye be prompted t' sign in, matey. Ye can be cancellin' this t' use th' free version o' th' OnSong® App. T' access features and services, ye be wantin' t' sign in.

Gettin' Oriented

Once ye open th' app, ye be immediately immersed in th' OnSong user interface, Arrr! Ye be seein' th' majority o' th' screen be filled with a demonstration song called Welcome to OnSong. Above that, ye be findin' th' Menubar which be where ye be accessin' nearly all th' tools and functions o' th' app. In th' lower right corner be th' Live Bar where ye can be togglein' certain live features like Autoscroll, Backing Tracks and th' Metronome. Let's first start by addin' a new song t' yer song library.

Yer Song Library

Tap on th' Songs button in th' upper left corner o' th' screen t' open th' Songs Menu. While this be showin' ye a list o' songs, ye can be tappin' on th' icon in th' upper left corner t' open th' drawer. Th' drawer be showin' ye different ways t' organize yer library.

Importin' Songs

Tap on th' import button in th' lower right corner t' view th' Add Songs screen, savvy? Here ye can be findin' many ways t' import files from storage services or content providers. OnSong be supportin' a variety o' file formats. We be goin' t' use Dropbox t' import files that we have wirelessly and anywhere there be an Internet connection. Ye be needin' t' setup a Dropbox account and authorize OnSong t' access yer Dropbox. That be a one-time thing, matey. After that, ye just be browsin' and selectin' files ye want t' import and then tap on th' Import button. Th' files be downloadin' and be added t' yer library. Ye be returned t' th' All Songs list and yer imported songs be appearin' in th' Song Viewer.

If ye be likin' t' import content from th' Internet, OnSong be providin' th' Add To OnSong Extension which be lettin' ye import from popular chord chart and lyrics websites. Some bands don't just be postin' their chord charts, but also media like backin' tracks and loops! Th' Add To OnSong extension can be importin' any type o' file format OnSong be supportin' too!

Viewin' Songs

Tap on a song in th' Songs Menu that ye want t' view and it be loaded into th' Song Viewer. Ye can be scrollin' this song up and down t' view it or tap on th' top or bottom o' th' screen. Does it be lookin' like ye want? If not, ye can be makin' changes t' it or pick a different file t' view. Tap on th' pages icon with th' checkmark t' open th' Attachments t' view different files that ye can be viewin'.

Editin' Songs

Text-based chord charts be workin' best with OnSong, although ye can also be importin' chord charts ye may have in Word, PDF, and other supported formats. T' edit th' text-based chord chart, tap on th' Edit Chords and Lyrics at th' bottom t' open th' Song Editor. Ye can be learnin' more about th' OnSong and ChordPro file formats.

Fer other file formats, ye can also be importin' other file formats in this screen by tappin' on th' + button at th' bottom or edit th' file itself. See th' Attachments Menu fer more details.

Change Formattin'

Tap on th' sliders icon in Menubar t' open th' Style Preferences Menu. Here ye can be changin' th' font, size o' different elements o' th' page, as well as highlight th' chords or capo and transpose. Try t' make some changes and see how it be affectin' th' chord chart ye be viewin'. Ye can also be usin' th' document tab t' change how th' song be appearin' as well as toggle Low Light Mode.

Add an Annotation

Now let's be addin' a sticky note t' th' song, matey. T' do this, tap on th' annotations icon in th' Menubar t' open th' Annotations Menu. Next, choose Sticky Note from th' menu t' place a sticky note on th' screen. Use th' Note Editor t' write a note. Tap on Done and then tap and drag th' note t' place it where ye like. Double-tap on th' note t' open th' editor again. Tap on th' "A" icon t' open th' Appearance Menu where ye can be changin' th' note color and other parameters. Tap Done t' save yer changes.

Create a Set List

Now that we have two songs, let's be creatin' a set, Arrr! Tap on th' Songs button in th' Menubar t' open th' Songs Menu. Tap on th' button in th' upper left t' open th' Drawer and choose Active Sets under th' Sets section. This be displayin' a list o' yer active sets. Ye can then be tappin' on th' + button at th' bottom t' create a new set. Set th' date and optional title and then tap Done.

Since yer set be empty, ye should be taken t' a screen t' browse yer library fer songs t' be added. If not, just tap on it t' view th' set and then tap on th' + button on th' bottom right t' pick some songs. Tap on both songs in yer library t' place a checkmark next t' them and then tap Done. Now ye have a set with two songs. Rearrange these songs by tappin' on th' Edit button in th' upper right corner t' enter editin' mode where ye can be draggin' and droppin' songs where ye'd like. Tap Done t' save yer changes.

Backup Yer Library

As ye create yer library o' songs and sets, yer OnSong library be becomin' more and more valuable t' ye, savvy? Keep it safe by creatin' a backup. No matter what be happenin' t' yer device or OnSong library, ye can always be restorin' from this backup file in th' event o' an emergency.
