Kindle

Amazon Kindles are a great alternative to iPads on the stage since they feature good screens at a low cost. However they do make some engineering decisions that can affect live performances. You can install it on your Amazon Kindle from the Amazon Appstore.

It's Android, After All

Amazon Kindle Fire devices are Android tablets so you are getting the full version of Android, albeit with a few modifications. For instance, there are no push notifications and no access to Google Play Services. This means that there is no Google Cast available, for instance.

Device Support

While OnSong can run on newer Amazon Kindle devices, it's important to note that they have about 25% the performance of an iPad from the same timeframe. We've worked to make OnSong perform well on these tablets, but it's important to realize that the cost-savings may be evident:

• Fire 7 (2019, 2022)
• Fire HD 8 (2017, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2024)
• Fire HD 8 Plus (2022)
• Fire HD 10 (2017, 2019, 2021, 2023)
• Fire HD 10 Plus (2021)
• Fire Max 11 (2023)

Hardware Limitations

Amazon Kindle devices only feature a USB 2.0 charging port that does not support external video or audio. This likely means that it also does not support any wired MIDI making it a completely wireless device. If you are looking to send external video, OnSong works with Smart TVs like the Amazon Kindle Fire to display lyrics and charts. Amazon Kindles are designed for media consumption do don't expect the performance of an iPad. However they are a great tablet that hovers around the $100 mark.
