The Other Phone Thingy

For years people have asked for OnSong on Android & now? It's literally happenin'. Drop it on your Android 9.0 or newer device from the Google Play Store.

Full Feature Parity (We Didn't Cheap Out)

We were never gonna half-bake this & release some sad, watered-down version that makes iOS users feel smug. Nope. OnSong for Android is the real deal—the full version, zero compromises. Go grab it from the Google Play Store.

What's Different (Or: Why Apple & Android Don't Play Nice)

ZOMG, plot twist—it's not exactly the same. When Apple locked down their ecosystem like a fortress, we had to get creative & rebuild those features to work with Android's whole vibe. Here's the tea:

Apple Music

You can still link backing tracks from Apple Music & Spotify in OnSong for Android (& import tracks straight into your library too). Real talk? The experience is mostly the same, but here's the catch: you gotta download the Apple Music &/or Spotify app on your Android device & stay connected to the internet since those services are all about streaming (aka they don't trust you with the actual files). Our song picker looks different than Apple's because, well, we made it ourselves. & yeah, you can't stream those tracks through OnSong's backing track player because they're... streaming. Wild, right?

Audio Subsystems

We're lowkey obsessed with all the audio stuff—metronome, backing tracks, multitracks, pitch pipe, chord playback—the works. Android can handle it all! We've got some wild stuff cooking for 2027 & spoiler alert: Android's gonna crush it. BUT here's the thing: Android devices are all over the map (literally), & not all of 'em support low-latency audio. Plus, we can't crank the gain above 100% on Android. Just FYI if you're planning to use our super cool music production tools down the line.

Document Scanning

OnSong for Android rocks its own document scanner, with an option to grab the one from Google Play Services if you're feelin' fancy. OnSong for iOS/iPadOS uses Apple's built-in one. Same features, same gorgeous results—just a slightly different flavor.

External Video

Plot twist: Some Android devices are like "nah, we don't do wired video" & Apple's the only one rockin' AirPlay. So we got spicy & added support for Google Cast plus Samsung, LG, Amazon Fire TV, & Google TV. Download the OnSong Display app on a compatible TV & boom—stream your lyrics & chords wirelessly like the rockstar you are.

Files

Apple started out with basically nothing for file access (just some sad thing called "file sharing" that required a USB cable to your computer). Android said "no thanks" to that whole mess, & honestly? It doesn't even matter. Just use the "Files" option to import & export stuff straight from your Android device. & obvi, all your faves like Dropbox, Google Drive, & OnSong Drive are chillin' there too.

Fonts

Apple comes preloaded with fancy licensed fonts like Helvetica, Georgia, Times New Roman, Courier, Verdana, & Marker Felt—fonts OnSong used for years. Problem? Those licenses are a hot mess & musicians need options. So we switched to class-based fonts & swapped 'em out for look-alikes that hit different. Plot twist: we also let you upload custom fonts now. You're welcome.

Live Video

Got cameras on your Android? Use 'em for live video backgrounds in your lyrics projection, y'all! OnSong for iOS/iPadOS flexes Apple's filter collection (a lot of 'em), but Android's lacking. No worries tho—we recreated 92+ of the 120 effects. You probably won't even notice the difference, srsly.

MIDI

Buckle up: we brought the full MIDI power to Android. Bluetooth MIDI? Check. Networked MIDI? Double-check. We built our own Bluetooth MIDI interface (not Apple's), & networked MIDI might work slightlyyy different but it plays nice across platforms.

Subscription Payment

Grab it from Google Play or Amazon Appstore? Subscribe through those instead of Apple App Store. Or pay on the web if you want more control over your cash flow. Group subscriptions only live on the web (all platforms, no exceptions).

Vertical Menubar

OnSong for Android doesn't support vertical menubar mode. Yet. (We're working on it. Maybe.)
